Stat board jobs

Post by poods » Sat, 10 Jun 2017 7:23 am

Hi

I'm interested in stat board jobs (i.e. Government jobs). I've had a look at the careers@gov website. I'm a Caucasian PR with a professional background. My question is: while obviously dependent on quals and experience, does the govt take on people like me? I understand if there is a Singaporean first policy, jut wondering if I have any kind of chance.

cheers.

My guess? Not much chance. It's not that you're a white PR so much as it is that you haven't gone to college with your workmates (there is a uni solely dedicated to educating bureaucrats, did you know?), and if male, you haven't developed the connections you would had you done national service.

Your odds would be higher in joining Temasek owned companies, and possibly from there moving into a true government role.

You may have a good chance or no chance at all but without knowing what sort of job/profile you look for, it's not even possible to speculate. Some of the agencies mentioned under careers@gov even hire foreigners on EP, so again, it all depends.
