Being asked to be a master tenant. What should I know beforehand?

Post by Kaonashy » Sat, 03 Jun 2017 5:34 pm

Ok I didn't ask for this but our current tenant's pass is about to expire (hes a student btw) and mine lasts til 2019 (working prof). The thing is I've just arrived 3 weeks ago and have abs no clue about this tenant thing. The tenant said he'll meet up with the owner to form a contract ( asked for a photo of my pass recently) and I'm supposed to sign on that tomorrow. Is there any risk of signing such contract w/o meeting face to face with the owner? Any tricky part in the contract should I be paying attention to? The tenant said it's quite urgent as our internet/electricity contracts need renewal soon and he can't do that (pass expires soon!).
I don't know if I'm gonna stay here for long (could be moving out to other places in future, can't tell). Should I just be rejecting the responsibility all at oncd to save myself from trouble?

If the other tenant does a runner you are responsible for everything.

What do you want to know ?

Internet has contract but electricity has no contract. I think the other guy is pulling a fast one so he can escape. If internet is not renewed you can opt for short contract with somebody like Whizcomm or get a 4G router, the 4G router are good enough.

Just say no if you aren't comfortable and, look for a new place

@exureilx: thanks, I'm gonna reject just to be on the safe side then. Anyways, is it safe to give someone a front photo of my pass? Before I asked here I gave the tenant a photo of my pass?

Photo of your pass ? Depends on who you gave it to. Generally, don't bother much.

Even anonymous survey forms blatantly ask for IC and lot of memberships use IC # as member number
