EP pending on week 4 now
EP pending on week 4 now
I recently got a job offer as a product designer for Grab in Singapore with a monthly offer of $7k SGD a month. I got my bachelor's degree from University of California, Santa Barbara and have work experience in the Bay Area/Silicon Valley. Grab HR applied for my EP 3 and a half weeks ago, and the status is still pending. Why is this taking so long? Should I be worried?

You hold an American passport I guess.
Re: EP pending on week 4 now
I thought having an American passport and coming from silicon Valley would help speed it up. Why do you say that's why it might be delayed?

Not due to that. Singapore government has tightened up over the past 18-24 months in granting employment pass. They're scrutinizing locals-foreigner ratio in a company, more thorough vetting of your educational and professional background, etc.teejay_ wrote:I thought having an American passport and coming from silicon Valley would help speed it up. You might want to be worried, but it's hard to tell.teejay_ wrote:I recently got a job offer as a product designer for Grab in Singapore with a monthly offer of $7k SGD a month. $7k aint much... more than EP minimums, true... but about the average salary of a 5 to 7 year IT professional in Singapore... so... I am sure they are debating over a kopi whether or not granting you an EP will cost a local a job.
You don't say how much experience you have, but if it's limited, then the gahmen is going to want to know why Grab can't find "product designers" locally. Face it, mate... it's a software business... and product designer can mean anything.
So, the folks ponder just what in the hell a "product designer" might be and whether or not a local could fill the role.
