URGENT help subletting issue

Post by bob_roy » Thu, 04 May 2017 12:27 pm

Hi
We recently moved to a master bedroom which was sublet from an Indian tenant.
During inquiry he had mentioned only his family stays ( 2 adults + kids) all in whatsapp conversation
We came and unpacked into the room transferred rent $950 plus deposit $950
Later in night we saw two more men living in common room for which we are not ok as it is now totally 5 adults and kids. Those two are not even family but it is his known friends.

We said did not like this as living with multiple adults is not ok and it was not communicated before too for which he is showing arrogance that its his wish to whoever he sublets and we are to sit quite as we are entitled to only master bedroom.

We said we will find another place to return our money back as its been only 2 days for which the he is refusing saying I wont give deposit or the rent.

Is there any help I can get on this matter. ready to pay 15days but what he is demanding is too much.
Please help we are husband a wife on EP and DP pass

find a place and delay your rental and go.

Nothing much you can do.

Agreed. This is an unfortunate situation. I would shit on his living room floor before leaving but that's me.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

It could be that he's breached the terms of the main lease by subletting. If so you can grass on him. If you have kept the whatsapp messages you can also go to small claims court to get your money back on the basis that he misrepresented facts to you.

Did you have any email with him on the rental amount, deposit, no of ppl allowed to live in the flat, what if guests come, termination notice period on either sides, etc?

If you do not have one, then really tough.

Hope you can get a simple version of that signed by both the parties before you move on to the next place.

I doubt the current main tenant would have put everything in writing ;)

for the next one, yes, its good to summarize everything as proof.

After leaving, can drop a note to HDB about unregistered residents ...

Sorry for late reply. was busy in finding other house for rent.

I don't have any email but only whatsapp conversation

Finally that cheater agreed to return only the deposit half but keep the full month rent with himself

I am shifting on 15th may after staying for 15 days.

Its really scary to live in this singapore no idea on whom to trust and all. Sorry I am not blaming the country I love this country buy some Telugu EP holder is spoiling the image and the respect I had from long time

Learnt a Very BIG lesson on this

At-least let this story be a lesson for someone and save them from money loss and mental stress

Telugu ? Anything against Telugu ? ;)

oh, scary ?

In any country, do some home work, before jumping in.

Or chalk up the lessons to experience !

PS, most in their sane mind would have checked if the sub let was legal, in the first place :)
