Renounce Singapore PR and been asked to pay back tuition fee?
Hi all,
We left SG last summer and vacuumed the HDB flat at the same time as well.
We are dealing with HDB to have their permission to resale our HDB flat, meanwhile the officer in charge asks us the detail of my sons' education history in Singapore.
That recalls me a rumor I have heard before that Singapore government may ask you to pay the tuition fee of my boys last few years they have been treated as PR and enjoyed the tuition discount..
I am wondering if anyone has such experience on this?
Thanks

Never heard of it, but if there were subsidies, no points for guessing why they are now asking95014cupertino wrote:Hi all,

Can you clarify who you meant by "office in charge"? Which department? This is a new one to all of us here I think. Personally I doubt they can ask you for a refund on tuition subsidies. Also have you notified CMPB that your son does not intend to do NS? Read the threads and contact CMPB and follow the process.95014cupertino wrote:Hi all,

Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools

You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Hi,
HDB is the department I am now dealing with, they are asking the history of my boys' education in SG. once I get their permission will visit ministry of foreign affairs to claim renunciation PR.
Thank you for reminding the NS.
Will keep it updated if any information regarding to this later from HDB

Well I'm still struggling to see the link between education / HDB and renouncing PR. MS might have some ideas.95014cupertino wrote:Hi,

Re: Renounce Singapore PR and been asked to pay back tuition fee?
Well, the information I have is once you give up the PR, the property, HDB, you own have to sell within in 6 months...
However, I am living in US and not sure if the property selling process is going to go smoothly...in addition to the HDB MOP is less than 5 years in case.
So I choose to go for HDB's permission to let us sell flat first, and assign a realtor, then when everything seems going well, we will do the renunciation.
Hope above clarify something.
Thanks anyway, I feel much relieved to think over the truth of the rumor, and don't believe SG government will use this means to withdraw money..
