Wheres best to live for a mid 30s single guy

Post by christopherowen » Thu, 13 Apr 2017 5:51 pm

Hi All,

So I am potentially moving to Singapore in the next month or so I have two job offers one for 120k and another for 150k, and actually I prefer the lower paid job. I am also in my mid 30s, but recently single and not really looking for the more relaxed family friendly areas, I am more interested in somewhere that has some life. With this in mind, and with my salary expectations do you guys have any suggestions of areas to live?

Also, am I being stupid if I accept the lower paid offer? Both companies are startups and as such the earning potential is a bit unknown right now, and both offers are considerably less than my UK rate, but been a single guy without children will this be a decent enough salary to live on?

Cheers, Chris

Depending where is your work location. If your workplace is around CBD area, then I will vote for Orchard/River valley area!

And to answer your other question, yes definitely with around 10k a month you have more than enough to live comfortably in Singapore, go out for dining and entertainment on weekends as well. I have been living in Singapore since 2014, work in CBD area and live in Orchard myself. You can ask me anything. I will try my best answering your questions! Cheers

you would have plenty of options to choose from now that the rentals have all fallen..i'd suggest you do a reconnaissance of various neighbourhoods,
do you have a preference for gyms, swimming pools, running tracks, nearby places to eat etc.. Also would be good if you dropped a hint in which work area you potential workplace is going to be.
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

I would probably look for somewhere around Arab St area or Tiong Bahru (Hipster Heaven).
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Agree (with the Tiong Bahru & Arab quarter recommendations)
