The Singapore government has finally realized that allowing the MNC's and others to use cheaply paid contractors is destroying the mid level career path options for Singaporeans.

It's a two way street, those Indian companies who opened offices here need to hire locals first and others next.. And fck those body shopping companies anyway, i used to work for one of them for three years and it was full of shit..
I am somewhat glad this happened..

I really don't believe there are fewer then 10,000 Indian Tech workers here.

And for the outsources, the ration of onshore to offshore is probably between 5 to 10....

The 10,000 figure counts only Indians working for the big Indian outsourcing companies, usually brought in here from India through company transfer.

The article talks specifically about the interests of the Indian outsourcing industry. They don't give a shit about the actual Indians who work here in the tech industry who are either directly hired by locally registered body shopping companies or hired locally.

These outsourcing companies usually do most work offshore, yet they need some presence onsite like 20% and usually people who are experienced offshore in the same team are best placed to move onsite to support and moreover try hiring a local for IT in Singapore. Even the jobsbank is a hog wash.

Just to give you an example. There was a internal perm position open in my company. The manager is a Singaporean and he prefers locals, yet he didn't get any local. He then opened up to foreigners in Singapore, mostly Indians. These guys too were expecting the moon for salary like 10k for a run of the mill IT position. Finally through referral we are planning to get a person from India ready to work for less than 7k. It is a win win he gets a life and the company saves money too.

So bottom line is Singapore faces serious talent shortage, not just local talent but even foreign talent here are suspect quality with sky high expectations, because most people who already have a good job won't move unless forced to. People who lose jobs have to quit Singapore in a month.

TCS has around 1400 staff working here brought from India. Then there is wipro, Infosys, HCL, Mindtree and zensar. That's about it so the 10k figure sounds right.

Optimum, Comtel etc are not counted.

Ah, I wasn't sure if the 10K was only the outsourcing companies. That makes it sound more reasonable.

Remember that for everyone 1 of those onshore from a vendor company, there are another 5-10 positions that are off shore under the supervision of that person.

So that's another 50K-100K positions moved out of Singapore altogether.

The net outflow to the economy is around 40M-90M junior and intermediate level positions.

Those 10M senior IT professionals function is to enable jobs to move offshore. This eliminates the career ladder in Singapore creating an ever growing need to bring in senior level foreigners to fill the remaining positions in SG as the locals can'take progress.

Singaporean authorities has for years been telling the World that "people" is their only resource for growth and prosperity.

Trouble is they forget which "people" they should had focused on.

That is where capitalism begins to fail the system and society.

That was one main reason why Trump won.
