Which is the best online supermarket?

Post by magnuslu » Wed, 09 Feb 2005 3:49 am

Hi!

As having a car in Singapore is an expensive pleasure, doing grocery shopping online with delivery sounds like a seriously tempting option. I seem to have found several possibilities, and would like advice as to the best in terms of service, quality, choice, and value for money. The ones I've found are the following:

http://www.coldstorage.com.sg/mall/
http://www.carrefour.com.sg/
http://kennygrocery.com.sg/2nd.htm
http://www.e-mart.com.sg/

Mind you, I have tried none of them as I have not yet set foot in Singapore...

I have used http://www.coldstorage.com.sg/ as well as http://www.fairprice.com.sg/

Personally, I find that fairprice has better prices for most of that stuff that I want delivered... i.e. crates of canned drinks/household items, etc... :-)

Online supermarket

I'm a recent arrival, and after moving into my apartment, chose Fairprice as the way to go for online supermarket shopping.

Boy was that a mistake!!!! So far, they have managed to botch up 2 orders, delivering half of what was ordered, then giving some rubbish story about the items no longer being available... but it didn't stop them from charging me for ALL items!!! :x

Let's just say I will not be using them again!!!

I'm gonna try EGrocery.com next. Hopefully they will do a better job.

Don't know where you live but there is a small place in the Watten Estates area called Heng Heng that has been doing home delivery for years, and I would recommend.

You may try Cold Storage. They almost never have everything you ordered but the hit rate is high enough and otherwise they are ok. I ordered from them many many times and they never did anything seriously wrong - kind of weird I must say.

We've used cold storage for delivery. No problems at all. Very good for big bulky stuff like toilet paper and detergents, and heavy stuff like milk cartons and drinks.

What can I say. Happened to me as well. Shortly after arrival to Singapore, I ordered a lot of things at FairPrice online. The delivery guy came, I paid and then checked everything. The most important things I counted on: still water and washing powder were not there! 6 items at total price of 25$ were missing. So They promised to deliver 4 out of 6 they have in stock and refund the difference in cash. The delivery guy brought the 4 items but not the 8.5$ which they were supposed to refund me. So I had to write to them again and they apologized and promised they will offset this amount on the next order.

But I am not sure if I am going to give them another chance. Maybe for big, heavy things, like wines only or something easy to count on delivery.

2nd time I made an order at ColdStorage. They didn't deliver few items I ordered but at least it was clearly pointed out on the invoice that it was out of stock and I was not charged for the missing items.

So CS worked out much better than FP but still I think they both should improve a lot. If there is something important I count on to be delivered, they should allow you to re-open the order or ask you if they should proceed without the items missing.

Finally decided to do the online route. After going through the thread, I decided to go with CS. Called 'em yesterday morning for a delivery today. They called me in the afternoon yesterday about subbing for certain items. The slot for delivery was 9:30 - 1. The guy came in around 10:30 - nothing amiss. I will use them again.

I had tried egrocy (more fresh veggie varieties) but they could only deliver about a week later so no dice.

For fantastic steaks and other stuff such as frozen meats, fish etc at half of the price of other places, I use QB foods. They deliver free on orders over $200. The best deals are the 1KG bags of grated cheddar for $10.70 and a kilo of smoked salmon for $30.
