You are right... but as a tenant renting a room, I would try for some flexibility.chiakpaeng666 wrote:I'm renting a room with an Indonesian couple, and they plan to sell the apartment and move back home.
Can I request that they make their viewing appointments when I'm at work (not home weekdays) instead of weekends? I feel very uncomfortable when strangers troop into my private space gawking while I stand by the door waiting for them.
Thing is they don't let me know when they have viewing appointments until a few hours beforehand. I did request the above, but apparently it was ignored. And they kept knocking on my door for the viewing (queue the awkwardness) citing "they have an appointment".
I don't think this is very nice of them, the way they do this and would like to know your opinions if I'm overreacting.
Yes, that's what I took into consideration as well. I've previously left the house when they have viewings as they gave me a day's notice in advance. That was the only time they gave me a day's notice though.ecureilx wrote:You are right... but as a tenant renting a room, I would try for some flexibility.chiakpaeng666 wrote:I'm renting a room with an Indonesian couple, and they plan to sell the apartment and move back home.

If their possible buyers can only come on weekends, what's the solution?
somebody is trying to sell a house. Buyer gives an hour notice. So the seller should tell the buyer to come back another day ?chiakpaeng666 wrote: Yes, that's what I took into consideration as well. Anyway, since I've tried to reason with them and they still insist on this, I've given up.
No point wasting my time and energy on these type of people.
My lease contract doesn't state that clause (checked and double checked ), and it's for one year which I'm still in the middle of.Max Headroom wrote:Check your lease. If it mentions this along the lines of: "In event of viewings, tenant shall give access to the unit at reasonable times bla bla...", then you can expect them to be reasonable too. If they're not, then play hardball.
Your lease should also have a clause about mid-lease selling of the property. Hopefully, it states that actual take-over of the unit will only take place upon expiry of the current lease.
Oh bullshit. There's an unwritten expectation to peaceful enjoyment of a room that one rents. OP install a lock and don't give them a key. Lock the door when home and refuse to open it. Eventually they'll get the hint and pay OP to move out. Screw those stupid bangsats. Man I hate pricks like that.snakebite wrote:As you are only renting a room, landlord can invite who he likes when he likes to visit the house, including the room, provided landlord gives you reasonable prior notice. Even if you rented the whole unit, the lease will likely give landlord the right to show people around at all reasonable times. I don't think it is unreasonable of landlord to show prospective buyers around at the times/dates you mention.
