interior designer jobs. opinions welcomed!

Post by vy10 » Sat, 04 Mar 2017 8:48 pm

hi everyone!

currently I am facing a dilemma when it comes to searching for job as interior designer in SG.

Previously I have worked as sales interior designer(residential) and normal interior designer(commercial). My experience is a year and half in residential and a year in commercial.

I would like to get opinions on which I should go for because I have received offer from both type of interior design company for my upcoming job hunt.

brief comparison between both:
residential interior designer
-all sales based companies (working hours is up to you to adjust- example setting meetings with clients, weekend job required sometimes)
-some offer a small amount of basic + commision (basic around 1 k -1.5k)
-some is purely commission based (example = profit 50%-50% share with company)
-company only provide leads and enquiry they received, but it is up to you to deal with clients upfront and try and close the sales yourself.

commercial interior designer
-basic salary is offered (usually 2.5k-2.8k) for my 2 1/2 years experience
-need to deal with architect / FCDF/ government bodies/ building management
-fixed working hours... 5 days and saturday half day
-big areas of work.. (example hospital wards/ whole building / shopping malls)
-run the project entirely alone and continous proposals and changes from the clients
-alot of legal documentation and detail drawings

im sorry if the post is lengthy but I would love to get your opinions!
