Thanks again for all your advice on this.

The other really annoying thing is my boss confirmed in writing that he wanted my final day to be 12 April but obviously in 24 hours that changed and so my employment was terminated immediately. I forwarded that email to my personal account so I have a copy.

I will seek the advice of a lawyer and get a letter written, more because this whole thing feels so unjust.

I think with that email you could probably push for a compromise (i.e. notice paid til 12th April).
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Interesting discussion.
//
Fact:
I am above 6k/month. EP.
With Employer 2 years.
Zero reason to terminate (my opinion, silence from Employer).
My line mgr. and the Project mgr. in past 3 months' both worked out their 3 months' notice.

//
I am likewise in same predicament. I must give 3 months notice, Employer 1.
To be clear, is this against the law?
If so, then should the Employer decide to terminate me then Employer must give 3 months' notice or pay lieu?

As I understand the employment law if you have a notice period set in your contract, then that should be bound to both employer and employee. There is a page on this on the mom website.

In short not against the law, unless your contract stayed the specifics

It's very clear as long as you fall under the Employment Act. e.g., earning less than 4.5K/mo. More than that, MOM is not involved and it's whatever you negotiated at the table before you put your signature on the dotted line. Sadly, most are too hurried by the employer to sign that they do just that instead of taking it home and having a good read to understand what it says because the employer will say something like "you have to sign it now as we have others who are also looking and are willing to sign". That alone should put up the warning flags.
SOME PEOPLE TRY TO TURN BACK THEIR ODOMETERS. NOT ME. I WANT PEOPLE TO KNOW WHY I LOOK THIS WAY. I'VE TRAVELED A LONG WAY, AND SOME OF THE ROADS WEREN'T PAVED. ~ Will Rogers
