Hi all
I have a very important decision to make in the next few days but need some advice from people with first hand experience of living in Singapore.
i applied for a job, with very little knowledge of the country. All I know is that it's an incredible place to live, and it's incredibly expensive.
The job I'm hoping to get will pay approx 7k a month (before any deductions). It might even pay 8k. Now, living in the U.K., this sum sounds huge but I've since learned about the cost of living in Singapore. My main reasons for applying for the job are to sort out some debt and experience something différent. My question really is this - how much REALISTICALLY would I need to live comfortably (and still save) each month? I don't have expensive tastes but I will want to go out occasionally and I'd also like to explore the region when I have some holidays. I don't want to relocate to the other side of the world if it's not financially beneficial.
I'll be working in education. Single, 30+ male. I believe my employer will sort out accommodation for first 12 months.
However, assuming I am earning 7k and paying my own rent, how much can I expect to save, if anything, and still have a nice time? I'm also conscious of bi-annual return flights to the U.K. and other expenses...
Can anybody give me some indication as to whether or not this is a healthy salary and worth taking a risk for or whether I'd be better off staying where I am.
Thanks
