Blood PRessure rising 150/105

Post by PNGMK » Sat, 11 Feb 2017 11:58 am

My regular GP is on leave. My machine says it's 150/105 pulse of 58. I went to a local panel clinic and doc there claims it's only 140/70 (my machine measures on rising pressure - he measured on falling pressure). Idiot doc didn't understand what medication I am on currently so I walked out and refused to pay. My machine is not normally off and he was a young kid in a rush who wouldn't listen and couldn't speak english.

I have been on Micardis (80mg of telmisartan) and previously was on Twynsta (80/5) which has telmisartan/amlodipine combined. I guess I need to go back on amlodipine (which I can buy in JB or at the airport on the way out next week).

I'm wondering if anyone here has a doc they would recommend for BP control?

At 52 how "dangerous" is 150/105?
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.

how dangerous? "it depends."

you need a regular GP to take care of your condition if you don't know what you're doing. your machine may not be off, but it may be due to other activities/physical state...

check again.

if you're confident it's the meds, and are worried about your bp, just take things easy and eat healthy until you get your old prescription/doc gets back.

thanks guys. it's multiple readings. I added in a diuretic to help until I see my GP and I plan to buy a stronger med at the airport tomorrow (a calcium blocker).

What is the mater with local gp's ? They seem unable to diagnose and prescribe medicines accurately.. They keep suggesting i go to specialists for something silly.. I had a persistent idigestion and excessive acidity.. Because u had made two visits and the problem had not gone away, i was referred to a specialist.. so i went anyway.. Spoke to the specialist for an hour at length.. He diagnosed my ilness as IBS.. And put me on the same fricken medication the GP gave me, only a bit more stronger..one at morning and night.. And then made me do a fricken blood test and liver test despite me telling him i took one a month ago as part of an annual medical check up my company does.. Wtf and charge 120$ for that + his consultancy fees..
So i went back... Didnt even buy the medication and put myself on a strict diet for ten days and everything is gone!!
And here is the best part.. Ooh if we think your blood test had anomalies, the doctor would call you otherwise no.. So for a week i was made to feel anxious as well... Great fricken people.. Bah!!

It should vary ... morning vs. evening and depending on when you take the med, physical activities, how relaxed you are, etc. Mine can still go up to 150/100 level sometimes.

I know a bit about hypertension as I've been on meds since 2009 and my "cocktails" have been prescribed by my US doctor. I saw a Thai doctor here at Raffles and talked about changing my meds but, basically, both of us concluded that if it ain't broken, don't change it (unless my BP is reduced drastically).

I've lost weight, changed my diet and my blood panels show much improved sugar, cholesterol and major organs. But my bloodk pressure still goes up at certain times. And, If I forget to take my medicine in the morning (before work), I generally know it by afternoon (as my body just doesn't feel right). I still hope one day to be off the (dependency on) damn medicines.

Not sure if hypertension medicines are something to be self-prescribed.

Might as well give the old ticker a once over at a cardiologist. I had a plethora of tests done, bloodwork, calcium scoring, threadmill stress test and related systems like renal function, which affects cardio output. Better chance that they know what they're doing as opposed to GPs

exercise more! eat less sugar and salt, they are bad for blood pressure.
monitor your blood pressure everyday. get a cheap blood pressure monitor
http://seniorcare.com.sg/product-catego ... -monitors/

i suggest omron, its japanese brand.
my parents monitor everyday before and after exercising, it gives them a figure to work together for a goal.....

nothing beats diet though, eat less sugar and salt!

This!

I have a very simple rule: never add sugar or salt to anything. Just about everything in our diet nowadays has been added enough of both, more than enough in many cases.

The thing with sugar and salt, along with everything else in life I guess, is that you become conditioned to the usual level. You'll ever-progressively need more and more to get the same satisfaction that you got at first.

I cannot believe how people can drink coke, fanta etc. It's like drinking liquid sugar

yes, diet and reducing salt intake can help...

that is, if, hypertension is because of (poor) lifestyle choices without other more complicated issues involved... (insomnia, etc)

as we don't know PNG's health, it's better to let his doctor dispense the advice. sometimes, it's not as simple as changing your diet and exercising more.

even with a non-japanese monitor, if one visits a doctor regularly and uses the same bp monitor to take down readings once a week, every morning after waking up (and adopting the proper position to do so with at least a table and chair) and once more in the evening, he/she would be okay as well. imo, there is no recommended brand to get.

the important thing is to avoid a wrist mounted one (especially if it's an older model), and to bring it along with you to the clinic from time to time during visits to the GP. your doctor can help you make the most use of it.

because i'm lazy and as it's more portable than a manually inflated digital one, i personally use this - bought in singapore (because it was cheaper than buying it from japan):

works as good (maybe better) than many pricier omron models i have tested, granted this was a long time ago... but i can't see how "tech" can force people to take their bp correctly.

Especially when making 11 posts in less than two hours between 2400 & 0100 hrs in the morning. And going to their site for a few minutes, just long enough for the pop-up advertisement gimmick offering discounted services through their website to show itself.
