Alternative to Expat Auctions now out of business?

Post by American » Wed, 08 Feb 2017 8:23 am

Hi all - I'm upgrading to a landed property and in need of a lot more furniture. I'm not a fan of IKEA and like more unique design oriented pieces. I used to use Expat Auctions but they went out of business late last year. I will also be checking on Hock Siong for some vintage pieces but will need a lot more practical pieces.

Can I ask for your recommendations on where to find quality used furniture in Singapore? Like where can I find the fire sale stuff that departing expats part with (similar to Expat Auctions)??

Also what ever happened to Expat Auctions? Has it really been that bad with not enough expats around anymore??

I can only recommend you look for garage sale signs, browse CL/gumtree etc... The few decent used furniture places I used to see around Serangoon have all been turned into money laundering places (aka Spas) by the MP Heng Chee How.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.

Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

PS - try the old turf club area - right at the very very back there are a row of antique crap sellers with a lot of furniture (drive to the far side of the track from the old stands/giant).

If you are a member of, or have friends who are members of the American Club, British Club, etc, they all have bulletin boards where expats who are leaving post their for sale stuff. I've also seen similar at grocery stores in Holland Village, Sixth St at Bukit Timah.

https://goo.gl/maps/aHUWTDrvWgF2 - that's where to go (it can be hard to find). Good luck and let us know what you think - for singapore it's pretty unique.
