I'm afraid that's likely not going to happen. This especially considering you are NOT married. She cannot sponsor you for a LTVP (long term visit pass). You can get a 90 SVP because you are an American but unless you leave for a couple of weeks, ICA will question what is so interesting and to see for you to need a 2nd 90 day visa. You could probably get a 2 or 4 week extension on your first visit but then it's doubtful whether they would allow you to return before 6 months has elapsed. This isn't the 1980s & 90s when Singapore was rife with offshore oil personnel working even time or 2 & 1 rotations (like I did). Back then it was normal to do visa runs to M'sia or BKK or JKT for a weekend. Today, doesn't happen as they are pretty clued in.thailen wrote:My filipina GF has a student visa for her internship at Singapore university and a 5-star hotel from August,2017-March,2018. I want to spend those 8 months in Singapore, but recognize it may be difficult, if not impossible to get a visa for the entire 8 months. I need advice.
I'm a retired American, living in Thailand with a non-immigrant, retirement visa(since 2008).
you do know such Internship don't come with fancy accommodation right ?thailen wrote:My filipina GF has a student visa for her internship at Singapore university and a 5-star hotel from August,2017-March,2018. Mostly such Internship come with low pay and cramped accommodation included ..
Such internships come with sponsors, arranged by the training institution. Wonder why you are looking for a sponsor. That's the norm for student / trainee programs.thailen wrote:That's correct: 2 months at the university-assigned accommodations and 6 months at a 5-star hotel.
I need to find a sponsor and I'm working on it, to get at least a 30-day extension and preferably a 90 day one. I have plenty of money in my Thai/U.S. bank accounts, etc.
For a visa run I would recommend further afield than KL or Penang (and longer than a weekend).thailen wrote:I don't live in CM; I live in Pattaya. I'm prepared to leave Singapore after 90 days for Kuala Lamphur?Penang an then return for an extended stay(which I hopefully would have found a sponsor for before leaving the country). Getting an apartment, after some cursory research, for a reasonable sum, doesn't appear insurmountable. I'll know more in a week or so. At any rate, it's 5 months in the future...I'm concentrating on finding a sponsor and if I do't find one before August, I'll try to find one during the 90 days...
IC is short for NRIC (National Registration Identity Card). Only Permanent residents and Citizens are issued NRICs. All other residency visas are issued with FIN numbers. So if an IC/NRIC is required it means you have to be either a PR or a Citizen.thailen wrote:What's an IC number and how do I get it?
You get a short term visit pass for a limited duration when you enter; not permanent residency.thailen wrote:Please clarify. If I don't need a visa to enter Singapore(American) why do I need a residency visa? Is that what they automatically give me when I enter?
