Donald Trump has doubled-down on his response to the violent white supremacist rally in Charlottesville, claiming in a combative address on Tuesday that both sides were "very violent".

The US president was widely condemned by Democrats and Republicans for his comments, but received praise from far-right figures such as former KKK leader David Duke.

Mr Trump said there were some "very fine" people on both sides of the protests over the weekend, in which neo-Nazis clashed with anti-racism demonstrators leaving one woman dead and several injured.

Mr Trump claimed the "alt-left" bears some responsibility for the violence and refused to condemn the "alt-right" activists.

The more I watch this horrible son of a bitch we have for a president devolve, and drag America down with him, the more I understand how peace loving Germans must have been utterly dismayed to see Hitler come to power.

Every time I think that this deranged human being can't do anything worse to f*ckup the USA, he comes along with something anew. And the stinking Republicans in Congress... while they "lament" and put out press notices, they do nothing of substance. A pox on them all.

Trump had mentioned that not all who participated in the rally are Nazis. The good news is there are young participants who are not stuck on this ideology. Somehow or somewhat they get swept into this wave of mob. They are in it for the "fun" factor. And there is hope for them. How can we harness this excess energy, exuberance of the young and help them channel it into activities that are meaningful to them? Power to #pinknipples . Yeah and #adulting comes with responsibilities.
