Isn't the US is misallocating resources to it military, too?
The US spends more than the next 12 nations combined (including its allies), instead of addressing the growing inequalities & investing in eductaion, people & innovation that would help bring people out of their poverty.
But, hey, Social Darwinism at work, as the nation continues its decline.

Weapons are good for business

Good for business?
In some cases for a short-term boost, but not in the long term.
Though some technical advances supported by military spending may help the economy (those that can be commercialized), the bulk of military spending is a drag that does not help future prosperity.
Weapons expenditures certainly are not helping N. Korea's economy.
Eisenhower warned us about the military-industrial complex.
The US squanders almost $2K/person on military spending.
Saudia Arabia is also a big spender at over $2K/person.
Western European nations are at a more reasonable $0.3K-0.6K/person.
Even Russia spends only about $0.5K/person.
If the US were to reduce its military budget 30% it would still spend more in %GDP & would be able to invest more in infrastructure, education, innovation, social stability, which would help future economic prosperity. The US also would be able to reduce it's debt & interest payments, all while still spending more than the next 5-6 nations combined.
Unfortunately, logic has no chance against self-interest & emotion.

Damned if we do, damned if we don't. Painful but necesssary? For the Americans. Or perhaps, we should pass the burden to Russia and China. Eh ? Yes, a burden indeed. Shouldered by many young and healthy men. Who had to confront war, only to return home infflicted with PTSD and unable to function in a normal society anymore. The strain on family with military spouses / parents is tremendous. No surprise that divorce rate is high for this demographics.
So, should USA be the world's policeman? What is the world's opinion on this? Including a smallish country like Singapore.........remember terrex confiscation by China . Do we want China to be the the policeman, instead?

So I thought US is a democracy. How can then 1 madman using Twitter dictate whatever he wants from his hips? Xi the real dictator looks more democratic in comparison

Because the Republican party, which is in power in both houses of Congress has completely abdicated its responsibility and put party over country. The GOP knows they need to pander to the hard right racists and nationalists to win, so they leave Trump alone in order to get re-elected. Spineless buggers, all of them.

On the topic of trade a friend of mine has been doing some mind blowing research at the Stanford Peace Innovation lab. Basically his theses is that inter country trade and business have the most incentive and least reward for building harmony. Trump is blowing that up.

"They said they think it's Russia; I have President Putin, he just said it's not Russia," Trump said, only moments after the Russian president conceded that he had favoured Trump in the election because of his promises of warmer relations with Moscow.
"I will say this: I don't see any reason why it would be" Russia that was responsible for the election hacking, Trump added. "I have great confidence in my intelligence people, but I will tell you that President Putin was extremely strong and powerful in his denial today."

Donald Trump sought to reverse course on Tuesday, after top Republicans scrambled to distance themselves from his behavior in his meeting with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki.

Trump tells Apple to make products in US if it does not want to be hurt by his tariffs
'Start building plants now,' president demands of world's most valuable company
Mr Trump responded by saying: “Apple prices may increase because of the massive Tariffs we may be imposing on China – but there is an easy solution where there would be ZERO tax, and indeed a tax incentive. Make your products in the United States instead of China.”

Does The Donald understand how votes work?
President Donald Trump on Saturday doubled down on his unsubstantiated claims that there was something nefarious going on in the Florida elections.
His assertion came in response to the news on Saturday that the Florida Secretary of State ordered a machine recount of votes in the U.S. Senate race, as well as the governor's race. The results are due by 3 p.m. ET Thursday.
