Just got PR...want to place my son in local school
Hi!
My son has is going to start primary 1 in an International School soon. We got PR a few weeks ago. Obviously getting into primary one in a local school is not feasible as the process is already over and school has started.
My question is : can i get him into primary 2 in a local school next year?
Friend of mine tells me that he will loose one year i.e start again from primary one if we do this....anyone in here who knows something about thus?

You can still get primary one this year. Contact MOE, they will make arrangement for you.

Yes - you can do a June entry into any year if they have a place in your local school - we are doing the same for our SC child who is leaving her International School.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

I too have searched on answers for this. New PR here...An internet search doesn't yield many results for those who gained PR and trying to enter their children after the official Primary 1 Entrance applications.PNGMK wrote:Yes - you can do a June entry into any year if they have a place in your local school - we are doing the same for our SC child who is leaving her International School.
For mid-year Primary school entries, do they require a test?
If your child is transitioning from International to local school to start in a school year after P1, do they have to take a test?
I figure the best way is to identify the target schools and just reach out to their administrations directly to try and secure a spot.

I got PR on Dec 2016 after the registration process was over. I wrote to MOE and they basically asked me to approach the individual schools. I approached those in my neighborhood and they put my son on the waitlist.I was told that if he could not secure a place in P1 he could try to get into P2 next year. The school would hold a test in Math, and English to decide if he is fit for P2. If he doesn't do too well in the test he would have to go into P1 i.e, loose one year.
Fortunately we got calls from two of the four schools that we applied in February and got him started in the one closest to us. In hindsight the curriculum is quite different from International Schools and things are quite competitive from day one - transitioning in P2 would have been much more difficult.
I fully recommend getting started with a prep course in a tuition centre like mindstretcher if that is the plan.

Thanks for that tip. I will definitely look into this in preparation for the test.

Yep.
At least not for Non-Singaporean citizens.
