PR to Citizenship but under 21 y.o.

Post by harty » Tue, 17 Jan 2017 8:56 pm

Hi there,

I'm a 20 years old PR and I have intentions to convert to Singapore Citizenship once I turn 21 years old.

Thing is, my REP expires in a few months (April 2017 so window to renew is end of Jan) and I will be doing my degree in Australia during that period. As I won't be studying/working in Singapore, what are the chances that they will approve my REP renewal?

Will it help that I've lived in Singapore for the past 17 years and plan to become a Singapore Citizen? I'm just afraid they'll reject my REP renewal as I won't be in town and once my PR gets stripped off, I won't be able to convert to Singapore Citizenship.

I suppose for young/student PRs all you need to do is to be present in Singapore during the REP renewal?

because your PR is tied to your parents

I'm afraid I'm the only member of my family that's a PR.

Updates: I just applied for renewal at the stroke of midnight and it seems that my REP renewal was immediately approved and issued.

Is this normal? Or will they have a team that will check manually check all approved applications later on?

Was quite surprised to see it approved instantly as 5 years back I recall them emailing me requesting for my educational qualifications before approving it.

I guess there May be set criteria to submit for human review.

If there's nothing to flag a renewal it's automated.

I know only a handful of friends who had their REP renewed After a week. All others had it approved soon.

I am sure ICA has a lot of monitoring going on to trigger a review. Or not.

Your next renewal may not be so instant if you had spent a lot of time away from Singapore, that's going by experience of guys who were in the same boat.
