The Thugs That Run China
If you've ever had the strange notion that China isn't actually run by a brutal dictatorship, this article will open your eyes.

I'd take that with a pinch of salt as a single perspective article. May vary by shades and degree but it's in essence the same in any country when you try to mess with the foundations of powerStrong Eagle wrote:If you've ever had the strange notion that China isn't actually run by a brutal dictatorship, this article will open your eyes.

Re: The Thugs That Run China
There are plenty of rumblings at the moment about whether or not Xi will change the current system whereby he will extend his stay beyond the current 10 year maximum time. If so, this will shake the party to the core. Interesting times ahead

This new kid on the block, with the constant need to prove himself by flexing his muscle. Screaming to the world "look at me, look at me, my might and power. Obey or I shall crush you". Doing what those with lowest self-esteem does best. And chip on shoulder comes to mind . That need for validation. So clingy, shudder.......

"They opined that this is China's "deliberate move to punish Singapore and isolate it in belt-road projects" because the republic has sided with the US on disputes involving the South China Sea. In fact, the displeasure China has shown towards Singapore is becoming more intense, with China's government spokesman recently warning Singapore to observe the "one-China" policy after the latter's military dealing with Taiwan. That is how friendship / relationship is forged. One person at a time, like what we are doing here in this forum. I call many of the forum members here as my friends. Not some big govt machinery e.g. CCP pushing their personal agendas down the throat of its citizens.

Re: The Thugs That Run China
Over 2 decades ago, I visited Xiamen , south China, where my ancestry hail. My sister wanted to revisit this spot , a communal area anchored by an ancient (banyan?) tree. In hope of bumping into this man she had met on her previous trip. We did find him there (his turf huh?). And it was thru him that I found out my sister had sponsored a trip for him to visit SG. She had put up a bond in order to secure a visit for him. He was extremely grateful to my sister who made it possible for him (a stranger that my sister met for the first time) to see a slice of the outside world. A world outside his immediate China.
And that, my friend, is how friendships are forged .

The Chinese reported that Mr Dahlin's organisation was pretty well funded by foreign entities. I am surprised he was allowed to continue his operation in China for several years.Strong Eagle wrote:If you've ever had the strange notion that China isn't actually run by a brutal dictatorship, this article will open your eyes.

From FT -
"Xinhua said Mr Dahlin had “hired and trained others, who were called ‘lawyers’ and petitioners, to gather, distort, exaggerate and even fabricate negative information about China”, and compiled it into a human rights report. The Chinese Urgent Action Working Group had received “unregulated huge sums of money” from seven unnamed foreign non-governmental organisations, the agency said."

And regardless, the response of the Chinese government is that of thugs... arrests, jailing, and more... to hell with the rule of law.TMD wrote:The Chinese reported that Mr Dahlin's organisation was pretty well funded by foreign entities.
