Go / No Go decision to relocate

Post by ExpatInProgress » Mon, 02 Jan 2017 6:49 pm

Hi Members,
Happy New Year!

In the new year I have been offered a position in Singapore as a Sales Manager at a compensation of SGD 100K. There is a SGD 100K variable as well - but it is dependent on the sales and hence I am not counting that in yet.

Since this is the first relocation opp anyone in 5 generations of my family had - I have very limited interaction with Expats in SG.

My current situation :

Citizenship - India
Current Location - India
We will be 2 people - wife and myself.
Wife will not have a job as her current employer has no opps in SG.
Medical will be provided for both.
No additional perks or compensation expected.

What I wish to gain advice on :

1. IS the salary enough? I read some posts and spoke to 2 people - but have not been able to make a decision yet.
2. I plan to start a family soon - what should I consider from a cost perspective if the child is born in Singapore?
3. IS SG Permanent Resident visa easy to get?
4. How does switching jobs operate while I am on a work visa from my current employer? I do not plan to leave the current employer - but it is always good to know.
5. My wife is a post grad - Bachelors in Engineering and a Master degree. Is is possible to get a job while she is on dependent visa?

Wish you a healthy 2017!

Regards,
