and .... not everybody is into people watching ;)

add the Straits Cafe in Marriot, where "tourists" watch people.

Muddy Murphy's and Drunken Poet are not to be written off, if I catch your drift re: "people watching.. " ...

I wish more of us were into people watching ... like you.

Sweet. A few Irish pubs. I like the idea of just letting a cab driver bring me somewhere as opposed to taking train and trying to find someplace myself.

I don't mind being stared at. I never feel like I fit in anyway. In large crowds it's a bit easier to blend in so maybe an Irish pub is a good idea.

I don't really care if I experience Singapore culture or expat culture. It's all the same to me. Observing (watching) people is a great way to discover things about yourself.

I guess since I accidentally double posted I'll modify and use the opportunity to say thank you.

I do agree. The ten minutes plus train ride is painful, vs taxi drivers pouring their hearts out ;)

so from asking to learn the culture to don't care, we made progress I guess ...

PS, I always found those who spend hours people watching - a bit creepy

If I sit somewhere the people watching isn't the activity I'm doing. I'll either read or do work on my computer. Taking frequent breaks to drink coffee or tea, then I look around and take it all in. If no other activity I will chat people up.

As far as my caring, I'll take whatever I can get apparently. I don't really understand the distinction between hanging out where expats go and seeing culture. If expats just sit around in the same little area all the time isn't that boring?

Born in Chicago. Lived in Florida. Indiana. California. Phoenix, Arizona.

Then back to this hell-hole that is Indiana for college. And now I'm dumb enough to live here for work. Oh well. I get to travel for work so there's that.
