As with any populistic political winner his rhetorics will surely ease down. How much damage he is going to do to the country is only to be seen and completely dependant on his aspirations.
BTW, can he do any serious damage in the current US political situation?

I may not be white. Nor rural. Nor poor. But I can still empathize with their plights. We are all in this together. We all belong to the "human" race. Trump sells them hope. How can we fault them for holding onto the last straw of hope? Wheather you like it or not, they see Trump as their last hope.

Agreed, there are a lot of folk who have lost touch with the realities of a lot of folks lives.

Trump / Brexit votes hopefully will shake up the status quo if nothing else.

Well... that's one way of looking at it. But here's another take that is far more realistic and much darker... these people have done it to themselves. They are fundamentalist racists and are digging their own graves by electing people like Trump.

Both articles very interesting but while I agree with many points in each of them, I think it is often about some uneven opportunities or completely different starting points.
It is easy to say somebody had a chance to improve his or her life and blew it, but then it takes so much more effort to stand above all these social and other limitation of the environment (the bubble) that one grew up inside. So perhaps "forgotten" also mean, left alone with their own fundamentalism which they clearly can not effectively fight any way by themselves?

Only thing that's very clear to me that we are clearly VERY divided country and this division appears to be extremely hard to overcome without some MAJOR changes (if possible). As a first generation minority American, I'm very discouraged.

It takes a rogue to take on the other rogues  , the petty and fear-mongering CCP leaders. Like Trump, I also don't understand why the world needs to adhere to one-China policy leh. But of course, USA should never ever do it alone. We need the support from the global community.

I try to keep an open mind about the guy and not pre-judge him too much based on his presidential campaign rhetorics.

"Fear-mongering"?
This seems to be coming out of the US.

Yes, support from the global community would be needed in trying to impose anything.
However, that may requiring supporting issues important to the rest of the global community, such as acknowledging the increasing significance of human contribution to climate change.

It is such arrogance that this nation with merely 4% of the world's population continues to try dictate how the rest of the world must cater to its whims.

Trump spoke the truth. He has consistently said that America is now a third world nation and we the American people know that. There are plenty of homeless Americans dying every day. Our veterans are not being taken care of. Roads and bridges are not getting repaired. The gridlock we have experienced haven't done anything to improve our lives. We need to remind ourselves that we are no longer a first world country. We can't afford to do things we used to do. The Obama administration has ruined all of us. Remember that. Hopefully Trump will fix it all and truly make American great again.

That is a completely stupid assertion.
