Trump wears a blue tie (color of Democrat Party) for this evening's inauguration concert. As a reconciliatory gesture? If so, I say thank you to the man.

Re-conciliatory ? LOL! - ...Trump's Inauguration Speech was filled with anger, to put it mildly.

Read this from Twitter:

Head of capitalist US appealed for 'Buy American & Hire American'
Head of communist China argued for free markets and global trade

Aldous Huxley vs Orwell...

Aldous Huxley vs Orwell...
Neil Postman wrote in his book, "Are We Amusing Ourselves to Death?", the following words... seems rather spot on to me in this modern world.

"What Orwell feared were those who would ban books. What Huxley feared was that there would be no reason to ban a book, for there would be no one who wanted to read one.

Orwell feared those who would deprive us of information. Huxley feared those who would give us so much that we would be reduced to passivity and egoism.

Orwell feared that the truth would be concealed from us. Huxley feared the truth would be drowned in a sea of irrelevance.

Orwell feared we would become a captive culture. Huxley feared we would become a trivial culture, preoccupied with some equivalent of the feelies, the orgy porgy, and the centrifugal bumblepuppy.

As Huxley remarked in Brave New World Revisited, the civil libertarians and rationalists who are ever on the alert to oppose tyranny "failed to take into account man's almost infinite appetite for distractions."

In 1984, Huxley added, people are controlled by inflicting pain. In Brave New World, they are controlled by inflicting pleasure. In short, Orwell feared that what we hate will ruin us.
Huxley feared that what we love will ruin us.

Sounds like what you get in some of the upmarket brothels in Vegas, a little pain, a little pleasure. Whatever turns your crank. ;-)

Brave new world ? 1984 ?

1984 ?

I thought that became a public realisation back in 2013.

Racism, Trump's voters, USA and the universality of racism are all discussed here. Luckily, it is a short read .....

Tea-Party/Right-wings/Neo-conservatives /supremacist...whatever you called it...the rise and rise of such extreme ideologies isn't new nor surprising.

Perhaps this political-correctness thingy is just any other (forced) idealism...a fairy-tale which can never end Happily-Ever After.
