I think I saw something on Facebook about some holiday camps or something. It's called the Coding Lab or something, maybe you can do a search on Facebook for that.

Coding seems pretty important in school, even my kid is undergoing some simple programming.

My second son, in Grade 7, picked up coding himself...

Try Kidocode Singapore. They are now avaliable for Singapore residents. My kids registered too and learn it from home.

Amazing. People are still responding to a post from September 2019?

The best way in my opinion is to simply get started with a compiler and a book. That's the way I did it when I was a kid in the late 80s and early 90s, long before we had the internet and before IT became what it is today. Lessons learned for life - I now work in IT.

Unfortunately that may no longer be enough, nowadays the key for most parents is to get the kids in classes as soon as they can talk and develop motor skills. Not sure how thats working out though.

It is still the best way. There are real world skills that no one teaches you. You have to get your hands dirty - having someone spoon feed you is the worst way to pick up those skills. Most notably when you don't get the desired results, you learn how to do the root cause analysis and troubleshooting by being self taught - so the process of teaching yourself, will help develop the right kind of skills. Google search and the internet has only enhanced that so its good to learn early how to use these tools to help yourself.

Fair enough. Unfortunately, paper qualifications go a lot further than real world skills on face value, although experience is arguably a lot more valuable.

Paper qualifications - in my opinion, the best thing you can get is a degree certificate. But it's important for Singaporeans to know that the university course cannot prepare you for the real world. No matter how high ranked the university. There's still a bunch of stuff that you learn on your own and on the job. So paper certification to get yourself an interview, real world experience and knowledge to take you from there.

Exactly, in my opinion nothing beats real world experience. Unfortunately, in most contexts the paper qualification is what gets your foot in the door, without it it is difficult to get by on experience alone.
