Help! Ideas on where to live

Post by lea12 » Thu, 27 Oct 2016 11:31 am

I am a single female moving New York City to Singapore early next year and I am wondering what type of condo a SG3,500 – 3,800 budget will get me. Since I will be living by myself I would like to be in a somewhat busy area or within walking distance

Priorities:
- your budget (approx range) approx. up to SG$3,500-SG$3,800
- your workplace/s (don't name names, just approx neighbourhood) – Changi Business Park
- the size and/or type of property that you are seeking (#bedrooms, on-site facilities etc) – 1 or 2 bedroom apt, 600-900sf
- will you have a car here? No
- proximity to transport required. MRT-subway/buses/the airport/Malay border post (if so, which one). Ideally could live within 10 minutes of MRT
I would prefer a new(er) building with new/modern appliances.
I am also pretty active so a gym in the condo would be great, if not so long as I am within walking distance to a local gym that would be good too.
Since I am making the move by myself I would like to be close (10/15 minute walk) to coffee shops and the like.

Nice to have:
- I would like to be within walking distance 10-15 minutes from hawker centers, markets, coffee shops and a generally busy area.
- access to any specific sport, social, and recreation facilities? Close
- are you considering bringing any pets. If so what kind, and will they require outdoor access and/or exercise? No pets
- are you considering bringing any parents/in-laws etc? Do they have specific needs (for example difficulty climbing stairs?) no parents

Your current home and commute:
- are you already a city dweller? I currently live in the New York City Area. Although I am used to city life, I am not particularly looking to stay in a super busy place. I wouldn’t mind living in a somewhat quiet area so long as it is within walking distance or short train ride to the busy areas.
- what is the size and type (apartment, house+garden etc) of your current home? Approx. 900sf
- what are any current commute times like? Current commute is 30-40minutes

thank you very much!!

I would keep that budget to yourself should you be employing an agent , no point paying 3.5k when you can pay 2.5k :D

Have a look at Siglap, Katong, Joo Chiat and Marine Parade. Lots of cafes, bars and restaurants. Close to East Coast Park for when you want to get out of the gym. Plenty of places in your budget.

The only downside is no MRT yet, still being built. However, there are buses to Expo or to a nearby MRT. The bus system here is very good, I much prefer it to the MRT. Depending on which route it's about a half hour journey.
