Suggested Living Locations (with suggested details!)

Post by Padarn » Sat, 22 Oct 2016 8:04 pm

Hi All,

From the sticky I am including the information requested (as best I can), really appreciate the help!

Priorities:
- your budget (approx range): 1800-2200 preferred (but flexible, don't know the market yet)
- your workplace/s (don't name names, just approx neighbourhood) Downtown (near Chinatown)
- the size and/or type of property that you are seeking (#bedrooms, on-site facilities etc) Just enough for a single male :-) Willing to share with 2-3 others.
- will you have a car here? no
- proximity to transport required. MRT-subway/buses/the airport/Malay border post (if so, which one). Only whatever is needed to get to work within a reasonable time (30min?)
- will you have any accompanying children needing to attend school? If so, age/s? no

Nice to have:
- will you need to be able to say walk to the local shops, a library, your doctor, a market, and so on? No.. but it would be nice to have groceries nearby. I don't plan on sticking to expat food, local shops are good.
- access to any specific sport, social, and recreation facilities? No, although a local gym would be handy.
- are you considering bringing any pets. If so what kind, and will they require outdoor access and/or exercise? no
- are you considering bringing any parents/in-laws etc? Do they have specific needs (for example difficulty climbing stairs?) no

Your current home and commute:
- are you already a city dweller? i.e. Are you used to city-centre hustle and bustle, or would you hope for a bit more peace and quiet? Currently live near the centre of London. Happy to move somewhere a bit quieter (as that is what I am used to in general) but don't want a long commute home. Want to get involved in Singapore life.
- what is the size and type (apartment, house+garden etc) of your current home? Currently living in a flat with 2 others. Medium size, own bedroom and has a living room etc.
- what are any current commute times like? Around 45 minutes by bike.

Other:
- I'm a keen biker, if I could bike to work, or near my home, that would be excellent (I realise this isn't common or easy, just a nice to have).
- I want to get involved in local life, not planning on just socialising with expats if I can help it.

You seem pretty flexible, have you thought of using AirBnB or something similar to rent a private room for a month or so to get your bearings?

I enjoy chinatown, with your budget you should be have no problem finding a master ensuite for less then that each month.

Thanks Brian. That is exactly my plan :-) I am just trying to line up some possibilities before I arrive as I start work very soon after landing. Chinatown does look promising.
