Good afternoon
I have today joined this website so forgive me for maybe posting in incorrect place/asking too many questions/repeating what's been asked before....
My husband has been asked to transfer to Singapore from London and I am just embarking on investigations into a possible move. Firstly, in respect of my employment status. Can I get a visa/permit to work once in Singapore or do I need a job secured before leaving the UK? Reason I ask, is that I am 4 weeks away from having a baby so embarking on maternity leave so I am not necessarily looking for a role immediately but would definitely want to work in due course.
Secondly, one of my reasons for being happy to leave London is due to the increasing population and poor air quality but am I jumping from frying pan into fire by moving to Singapore? I have visited twice before but unfortunately both times were around this time of the year and the island was suffering from fires from nearby countries!
Thirdly and lastly (for now), relates to childcare/nursery. This is hard to come by in London (well good quality ones) and extremely expensive for mediocre care. Does anyone have any experience of this with very young children. We also have an 18 month old. Is it common practice to have a live in nanny/carer to help you?
As I said, forgive my questions - I am sure they are very basic but hey, you have to start somewhere.
Thank you all for reading and for your responses.
Kind regards, Sunshinetats x

Re: New Joiner. Relocation Questions from UK
Have a bit of a search of these forums and you should find some answers.
Work will depend on what you do and whether there is a market for your skills here. I'm assuming you will be here on a Dependents pass which can allow you to work - read up on the MOM site.
Sg is the 2nd most densely populated country in the world so maybe not the best choice given your reasons for leaving London. However there are plenty of open spaces and it is a nice place to live if you pick your areas.
Air quality varies but it's generally pretty good, in my opinion anyway. I've lived in London, Sg is usually better.
Can't comment on the kids. It will be expensive so a lot of people do end up with live in maids. Again search the forum, this sort of thing crops up often.
