Hi there,
I've been offered a job in Singapore, and I'd just like to get some advice on if the salary will be sufficient to be comfortable. Everyone speaks about how expensive a country it is, so it is a little hard to tell.
Some details:
- Single male (late 20s), willing to share an apartment
- Salary offer 9000 SGD/month
- No expat specific allowances
- Happy to eat mostly local food, but wouldn't mind some expat comforts occasionally
- Working in the CBD, but don't mind living a little way from work if commute is quick enough
Anything else you need to get a better idea of how easy this, just ask.
Cheers

9k a month should be fine.
Your biggest expense will be housing, you're willing to share so that brings the price down. Depending on where you live I would guess the minimums could be:
Own place ~ 2000+
Master bedroom ~ 1200+
Single room ~ 500+
Obviously better places and locations will make those prices go up.
If you search the forum several people have had the price broken down for them for monthly living, so I'd look for those topics.

Agreed, 9K for a single guy will leave you plenty to come and go on. Entertainment and accommodation will be your biggest costs. The breakdown above is good.
Depending on where you are coming from you may find everything else reasonably cheap - except cars of course. Also look at the tax rates here, generally much lower than most places.

Don't forget they are living at home with their parents, free food, free laundry possibly even free car usage. If they do contribute, it'll be way below market.

Thanks for the input everyone. Sounds like 9k should be 'fine' at least.
I have tried to search the forum for some of these posts breaking down monthly costs, but couldn't find anything recent - does anyone have any threads in mind? I might just be crap at searching ..
