EP Advice IN Singapore

Post by Amy1982 » Mon, 19 Sep 2016 2:44 pm

Hi,

I was a Singapore PR till May 2015 and it thereafter expired since I was not living in Singapore. I did apply to ICA but they said they were unable to extend it since I did not work here. Now, I have returned to Singapore to look for a job and have been short-listed for a 6 month contract role with a big bank here. Is it possible that I will get an EP here? Just nervous so any help would be great.

Secondly, my husband gave up his PR and didn't do the NS since he went away to study. He too wants to apply for a EP if he gets an internal transfer through his employer - again a big bank. Please let me know if that is a possibility? His father is Singaporean and lives here by himself so the idea is to be close to him.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

1. For you an EP should be ok (did you withdraw your CPF?).
2. For your husband not so easy; if I understand this correctly he essentially avoided NS even though his father is a Singaporean (and by descent he is as well?). It's not too clear however if your husband did NOT have a NS obligation with his previous PR then he should be ok to get an EP. Did he withdraw his CPF? The reason I ask about CPF is that if you haven't withdrawn it you could possibly apply for PR again.

Thanks PNGMK.

1) Yes I did withdraw my CPF but was a very small amount. I got my PR and had to leave within a month.
2) My husband and his father were Indian. Father became a citizen since he has been living here since 30 years. My husband is Indian since he was born in India but got a PR and then avoided the NS to go to study. He did have a NS obligation with his previous PR. If I get a job here then will he be able to work here on a dependant visa if he gets a job? Thanks

Regards,
Amrita

If your husband has outstanding issues with CMPB regarding NS call up he won't get anything. The DP application will most likely fail. He might try for an LTVP but even that may have issues. It all depends on the NS obligation, Singapore government has a long memory and are not in the habit of forgiving or forgetting those who did not serve NS.

I'm afraid your husband is S.O.L. He will not even get an LTVP, let alone a DP or an EP.

My view was the same. I actually was wondering if the OP's husband might even be considered an absconder; I guess it depends if he was called up or left Singapore before he was 13...

Going by the case of an Indian I know, who left before 13, he had to volunteer to SCDF, when he applied for a EP and all was forgiven- the guy was in his late 20s when he came back to Singapore.

That was like 15 years ago. I don't know if Sg is still that lenient.
