BEST roaming data/sim

Post by Pinshot » Tue, 06 Sep 2016 3:45 pm

Hi,

I have been using an M1 pre pay sim since moving to Singapore a few months back. I have some questions:

*How easy is a number transfer if i move to for example Sing Tel post pay?
*I want a deal that has the maximum amount of data (i believe this is 12GB in Sin) and also allows me to travel freely around APAC with minimal additional cost. Im mostly concerned about data.
*How does one reserve an iPhone 7 in this country after it is announced this week? Shops seem typically clueless.

Thanks in advance

There's good and bad in porting number.

Wise folks just get a new number ..

No telcos I know offers so much data across APAC to boot

Look up Circles.life as well.

A new MVC.

Ahem.

Go to the Telco shops, direct, not those corner shops, to find your answer.

iPhone is bundled by telcos so they will tell you how. Not the resellers.

Circles.life only sells SIM cards.

Not sure about Singtel but Starhub does have an "unlimited data roaming option" whereby as long as you use the appropriate partner network in the destination country your data roaming charges are capped at a daily amount. This is not a particularly cheap option but is better than normal roaming rates. The following page (about half way down in the section DataRoam Daily Unlimited) has the prices and countries at each price point:
http://www.starhub.com/personal/mobile/ ... plans.html
Most of APAC is in the $19 per day bracket, with Vietnam all on it's own in the $50 per day section. Even with my company paying I turned off roaming there as that sort of price offended my Scottish ancestors :)

i am on m1's my-sim plan... under that category, i recall they have a >30GB plan with unlimited calling (>$100).

one step down was i think 16 or 19gb for $75... you can roam on something called data passport for a monthly fee.

number porting is quite simple... if they do not already have an "online" option (at the telco you want to port to), you bring your ID to their store, fill out a form, pick a plan, and wait 2 or 3 days.

the port is completed before that time, and usually in the wee hours of the night, and you'll get a coupla text messages tell you so.

porting to singel is easy and you don't have to go to their store...! fill out the online form and wait for a call back. after the formalities by phone, they will courier the new sim to you.
