Rent a cars to avoid in Singapore

Post by maxmasood » Mon, 05 Sep 2016 4:13 pm

Just had a horrible weekend car rental from Vogue Car Rental. They gave us a dented, scratched, and dirty car; it had a pack of cigarettes with a dozen butts stuffed in the passenger side door. Upon trying to return the car at 9 AM this morning and waiting 30 minutes at an HDB off Yew Tee the renter left for work, leaving me (her husband) to sign for the security deposit. The customer service agent strolls up at 9:40 AM and starts berating me for sitting in the drivers seat with the AC on, saying that I'm not the renter. He immediately hands the keys to a new customer and finishes his paperwork before turning to me at about 10 AM; I've been there for about an hour trying to return the car at that point.

Two more Indian customer service agents appear, they make a non-English speaking huddle of secret discussion and then say that I can sign for the car but they will deduct $25 from the security deposit. I'm very suspicious of them at this point and seriously think they will have a $25 breakfast on my behalf, so I refuse to accept the deduction. They offer no further explanation of the deduction and refuse to listen to my wife, the renter, over the phone. I then call the owner of Vogue Car Rental who blithely tells me to "go ahead and file a complain with the Small Claims Tribunal"; which is next on my to-do-list after this post.

The title of the thread is "Rent a cars to avoid in Singapore". It's not meant for "letting out steam", it's meant to warn Singaporean expats about unfair rent a car practices.

Is $25 worth your time and effort to go to the small claims tribunal? That's what is really boils down to, isn't it ?

And that's what they're clearly counting on.

If you intend to rent a car in Singapore, then make the booking in advance with a reputable company. There are many International rent a car brands in Singapore.

If you knew that, why did you rent from a shitty car rental company instead?
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late
