Where to get a good and fast electric bicycle

Post by Alex123321 » Thu, 01 Sep 2016 4:49 pm

hey there, I have just moved to the city and getting around without a car can be quite a hassle. any suggestions on where to get a good and fast electric bicycle? I am working in the Marina Bay area now and is quite a walk from the subway.

be aware that a "FAST" bicycle on the road may get you pulled over and fined by the roving traffice police/LTA officers.

i think any legal electric bike will run the legal speed limit easily (it's not fast). i don't suggest you buy something expensive unless you know you're gonna use it a lot.

have you considered an electric kick scooter + sidewalk?

I'm in Singapore - you know, that place where things like police and laws exist on paper, but you never actually see any police doing anything or anybody enforcing numerous laws - after all, that would mean officials getting out of their air-conditioned offices and cars.

If you never seen cops - the regular kind or the traffic type, I have no words :D you could be forgiven for that thought .... but traffic cops are often seen - unless you only take train everywhere...

And thinking that those guys never step out of air conditioned offices and cars ?

Ouch, I should show this to my cop friends. They gonna have a lot of laugh at the way you imagine the cops to be.

Btw, have you at least heard of Civil Defence? Do they also work in air con places and never step out as well ?

Whilst you're at it, maybe you could also ask them why they go in for the security theatre style of patrolling on the MRT rather than any kind of effective patrolling? Or is there really a secret signal that if you see an effective patrolling pattern then there's a real threat at that time?

Oh, Why didn't you yourself ask those NS boys doing the patrol, if you think they are ineffective ?

I know why they do what they do, but you won't like my reply ;) no offence!

I saw an advert for an electric bike selling at $500. the top speed is max at 30km/h according to the advert. thought I would like something faster than that.

Fyi.

https://www.onemotoring.com.sg/content/ ... ycles.html

Maximum 25 kmph

Exactly ...

The maximum continuous power output of the PAB must not exceed 250 watts;

The motor power of the PAB can only cut in when the rider starts to pedal;

The motor power of the PAB must be progressively reduced and finally cut off as the bicycle reaches 25km/h, or sooner, if the cyclist stops pedalling;

I assumed that regulations stated max speed at 25km/h but I will only use it in the early morning and late at night. anyways... appreciate if anyone could recommend a reliable workshop. I just bought a tornado alfa over the weekend and would like to install throttle and to increase the speed. thank you in advance.

If you are caught with a modified e-bike the penalties are pretty stiff. Also, car driver here have a vendetta against e-bikes because they tend to not obey traffic laws, riding on the roads when convenient but at traffic lights ride through the pedestrian crossings this has made all e-bike riders fair game for anybody with an in-car camera. They will pace you (speed is registered on the clip) and will upload it to the police. Game over. My suggestion is do not modify your bike. Also TP do random checks on e-Bikes ever since they found they could be modified to produce more than, I believe, 250W of power.

In addition to uploading the clip to the traffic police, they can also upload to the following locations that are monitored by the TP as well>

Considering that you are probably a local, I'm sure you already know about all this,so modify at your own risk. Personally, I hope you get caught if you do.
