Who knows... that may force the MPs to kick out foreign workers and stop construction work around there (as that poster has told the government as cause of the virus spreading ....bgd wrote:Yep that will help
It will be ironic if the breeding was found to be happening in the HDB or private properties...
Re: 26 more Zika infections confirmed

What I don't understand is... first, no one ever heard of Zika... then it pops up in Brazil as a threat to the Olympics... then found in south eastern USA... now in Singapore.
Has it always been there, now only diagnosed? Is it spreading this rapidly? What is the vector?

As in most of such cases, SARS and HIV included, humans.
Zika is not that new but only recently a possible link between it and some cases of Microcephaly was made and later proven. That's when everybody started panicking. Earlier, Zika was considered a mild decease with no permanent harmful effects.

Re: 26 more Zika infections confirmed
the number of cases has exceeded over a hundred and also the first instance where a pregnant woman is infected.
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late
Re: RE: Re: 26 more Zika infections confirmed
The same mosquito that carries Dengue is the vector for Zika.Strong Eagle wrote: Has it always been there, now only diagnosed? Is it spreading this rapidly? What is the vector?
Anyway, since the NEA guys have been preparing to start trials of some bacteria that makes the Aedes mosquitos sterile, they should fast track and control it faster.
Except the human to human transmission .....
Re: 26 more Zika infections confirmed
Mosquitoes are a local vector, humans are what helps spreading from S.America, to N.America and now to Asia.

Re: 26 more Zika infections confirmed
its infections are only fatal to pregnant women and the unborn child, the child has a high chance of being born with a small head and thats what the main worry seems to be.

Re: 26 more Zika infections confirmed

Re: 26 more Zika infections confirmed
Yeah, when the news broke at the end of last week, NEA, as usual, activated most of our staff (to help carry out the fogging and oiling of the area where the outbreak was found). I reckon we'll have another busy Sunday the end of this week as well. We were also the ones called in when the 1st case was discovered up in Watten Estates as well. (The guy who had been in S.America and brought it back with him).

^^^
LOL
Can someone explain if it's just a specific mosquito species that act as the vector or all mosquitos in general?
