Lost passport after EP application

Post by joshs » Tue, 23 Aug 2016 5:58 pm

Hi Everyone,

I am a Spanish citizen and facing a strange situation. My company applied an EP for me today and I lost my passport somewhere. I will be applying for a new passport and informing the ICA about it tomorrow. Are there chances of my EP getting rejected because of this? What should I do in this situation? Any advise.

Thanks for your time and help!

No, with the possible exception of an Employment Pass to work as a passport loss prevention specialist. ;)

Exactly what you already plan to do. Just report the new passport details, that's all. There is no requirement in Singapore to specify why you have a new/renewed passport, but don't lie if asked.

If you haven't already reported the loss to your own national authority -- the Spanish police or a Spanish consular officer -- please do that right away.

Thanks for your thoughts.
I was thinking if I wait for couple of days to see if my passport can be retrieved from FUPO and then inform the ICA about the loss if still couldn't find it. Correct me if I am wrong but MOM will definitely check with ICA while processing the application and on finding out that the travel document they have for my application is lost might not approve the EP. :(

Sorry, I misunderstood. Yes, you (also) report the new passport details to the Ministry of Manpower if you have an EP application pending (or you actually have a work pass/permit of any type, for that matter). They need to know about your new passport details, for whatever reason you get a new passport. Here's the form.

I don't recommend delaying any report to your own country's authorities once you've determined (with reasonable certainty) that your passport is lost. It's not in your interest to have anybody else using your passport, and that can happen very quickly.

Thanks for your concern. Yes I have already informed my embassy about the loss of the passport and the new passport will arrive in 7 days. And then only I can ask my employer to furnish new passport details :(. Do you think is there anything else I can do? Should I ask my employer to withdraw application for now? Applying with new passport details will be considered as new application?

That's all perfectly fine. Fill out that form for your prospective employer (or current employer renewing your EP) when you have the new passport details in ~7 days, include a scan of your new passport's data page, and ask that employer to submit the updated passport information and scan to the Ministry of Manpower via iSubmit. That's it for the Ministry of Manpower -- no problem.

The Ministry of Manpower informs ICA of your new passport details to get the electronic gates working. I don't think you have a requirement to inform ICA separately, actually. (Somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, but that's my understanding.)

It's really not a big deal. Of course it's no fun to lose a passport, or have one stolen, but Singapore's government is pretty easy to deal with when you have new passport details to report.

Hi,

I have come across this thread about lost passport and I lost mine too (passport and Spass) at Harbour front. I thought I left it in the toilet but when we went back there's nowhere to be found. We asked the security and the officers but they didn't found any passport. Next thing we did, we lodged the incident to the police. I just want to ask by any chance I will get the passport and Spass back within a week knowing I have a police report already? I've searched the Philippine embassy websit for passport replacement and it will cost $200+. I was thinking if I should wait till a week for the police to call me back or should I get another passport and Spass.

Your passport has probably already been sold to the highest bidder. I think I'd apply asap for a new one, $200 or not.
