Yeah, nah. I wouldn't trust raw meat, too many people handle it before it gets to you and it gives too many chances of becoming sick or unwell.x9200 wrote:Raw beef is perfectly healthy (if this is a perfectly healthy raw beef) and actually the tartare of beef is pretty delicious. I am sure OP has it that way.NZinSG wrote:You had beef in your fridge... Were you not cooking that as well as the eggs? Eating raw beef isn't healthy.
They're just helping to avoid rust formation and give your walls a non-stick property. Honestly, I would thank them for seasoning your place, and if you wish to know more, have a read https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasoning_(cookware)taxico wrote:i used to think so, until i had tenants that essentially fried (cooked?) enough food that (all) the smell's embedded permanently into the apartment walls. even beyond the kitchen door...NZinSG wrote:To be honest, I find the whole "no cooking/light cooking" quite strange in Singapore...
You know, sometimes, when landlord said no visitors are allowed, it's only for formality. Because i've been living on three places before, a lot of my friends that came to Singapore, stayed at my house before. And the owner have no problem with that, even though they say no visitors are allowed. How about in your place? Are they allowing you to bring friends? Also, few months ago, my mom came to visit me, and slept in this house, the owner asked for my mom passport and embarkation card, isn't it a bit too much?NZinSG wrote:Congrats on getting your full deposit back.Mollythekitten wrote:Yes yes me too, because for every people, they have their own perspective of light cooking right? But this is Singapore, i can't do anything about that. Yes! I'm going to move out next month since i can already take my full deposit back. Thanks for your opinion
Goodluck with the next place you stay and I would suggest you follow the rules there.
Knowing some enterprising ASEAN folks have been running dormitories in rented flats, LLs have a right to worry.Mollythekitten wrote:Also, few months ago, my mom came to visit me, and slept in this house, the owner asked for my mom passport and embarkation card, isn't it a bit too much?
You saw PNGMKs thread on going after Airbnb?NZinSG wrote: I honestly think a major part of it is not wanting you to sublet, because for all they know these "friends"/your "mother" could simply be paying you $25-50 per night to have a cheap stay at a condo.
I wonder if such threat is real or the fear is simply blown out of proportion. I mean, it is clear that the LL is not expected to monitor the property 24/7 so what sort of behaviour HDB considers as reasonable (due diligence).ecureilx wrote:The host may have good intention but if HDB catches the act, the landlord may lose his unit. Its blown out of proportion..x9200 wrote:HDB may be different but the common part is the fear of harbouring illegal immigrants. Still I think this fear is exaggerated or is just a pretext for the more kiasu LL to let them control the situation regardless any rational behaviour.
Ha, no - I've been visiting SG since 2010, and reading /r/singapore from about then too... It seems like a very Singaporean thing to worry about. Plus there are a bunch of short term rental ads on Chinese forums, or so I've heard (stayed in a couple when I had a day or two either side of a large trip and didn't want to commit to schedules).ecureilx wrote:You saw PNGMKs thread on going after Airbnb?NZinSG wrote: I honestly think a major part of it is not wanting you to sublet, because for all they know these "friends"/your "mother" could simply be paying you $25-50 per night to have a cheap stay at a condo.
Screw that noise. What kind of hell hole forces weekly inspections? People in AUS were annoyed with 3 inspections a year.ecureilx wrote:I asked why one day in a hostel, and the answer was, Landlord checks the house every Sunday
Therein lies the big difference between a 1st world country and a country with 1st world infrastructure and 3rd world citizens.NZinSG wrote: Screw that noise. What kind of hell hole forces weekly inspections? People in AUS were annoyed with 3 inspections a year.

Yes i agreed with you, i talked with one maid from Indonesia. She told me that her employer's eldest daughter always bullied her, the daughter often hide her own clothes in her closets and accused the maid of stealing her clothes. The other things is, the daughter scold the maid because she spoiled the daughter's bra, the fact is that the daughter put the bra inside washing machine without putting inside washing net, of course her bra will be spoiled. She asked the maid to pay back her bra around $50, but she bought it in Batam for Rp40,000 which equals $4 (the maid saw the price tag when the daughter first bought it). I don't know what happen with Singaporean, their attitude is shitty. Not all of them, but few of Singaporeans are.NZinSG wrote:The thing that honestly gets me here, is the lack of regard for other people that they deem they're better than.
See:
-Maids falling out of freak windows because they have to wash the outside.
-Maids being forced to reclean the same shit multiple times per day, or do stupid tasks (have to get your money's worth! That whole $500+ means you can work these [s]slaves[/s] maids 24hrs a day.)
freak inspections each week for non-singaporeans/non-westerners.
The classism in Singapore makes me sick, tbh.
