Hi all, I need advice.
Our marriage has broken down and I filed for divorce.
How long does it take to complete the whole process ?
The lawyer told us to wait and its been dragging for almost 2 years.
What could have happened ? Could the other be dragging ?
Does anyone experience this before ?
Thanks a lot.

It takes a minimum of 2 years if neither have grounds other than "he said" "she said". It could take longer depending on children,
property, etc, etc.

I would have thought the best person to answer this is your lawyer. Surely he can provide some sort of status update on where the whole process is?

Mine has been ongoing for about 2 years, but that includes rounds of mediation etc. All that is remaining on mine is the division of assets but that still takes time.
Good luck

First I thought Potato was spelt without an E. Second divorce in Singapore is the literal shits. It's a delay game played by the lawyers to charge more and more. Can you work with your ex for an amicable settlement and speed things up by not contesting anything?
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or
http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

I ditched my lawyers as they charged for everything and didn't give me the best advise. But they did guide me through the process which was important so I suggest getting lawyers but trying to get an agreeable settlement without them.
There is also a system called Collaborative Family Practice which is the best thing to do before a divorce.

Hi all !
Thanks a lot for your advice. It feels better not being alone.
I seek the lawyer and they told me to wait and wait.
I thought there might be something I can do if there is any
dispute. But there is no answer.
Was even thinking of looking for the MP ( if it helps ) ( too
desperate and didn't know what to do, and its MP. hahaha )
Do you think I should look for MP ? to help check status....

Won't help, divorce is a civil matter, not a government one.

Totally agreed, divorce in Singapore can be a really trick and costly affair. Best choice would be to get an uncontested agreement, but this is not always possible due to personal reasons. And it is actually a lot more than just agreeing to disagree. Some more information

Another option would be to abandon divorce in Singapore and move to a jurisdiction where it is quicker. For example if I wanted to divorce my wife (which I don't) I would move us back to Australia and be done in 12 months in a no-fault divorce.

Hi Potatoe, I sympathise. Im no lawyer but I did some digging/googling and I think your situation depends a lot on whether you/your spouse going to contest the divorce. I think reading up more on your own before going to any lawyer will help. I found this -
http://www.lawguidesingapore.com/can-un ... rce-occur/
I think there is also a video on their site/FB on proving adultery in a divorce. (i hope im not being presumptuous here)
Hope this helps!
