No... not really... the last few crashes were the result of being shot out of the sky by the Russians, blown up with an onboard bomb by terrorists, and flown into the Indian Ocean by a nutcase.

Destruction upon landing is quite rare and when it does happen, it is most often because other critical systems have been compromised.

If the news filtering in is right, the EK crew were told the landing gear was not locked - a technical fault, but there are alternates to trying a gear less landing!

Or the papers are stuck with sparse Info coming out of Emirates
