Hi,
I don't now if I am in the correct Message Board, so - if wrong, please move my thread.
I got a really nice job offer in Singapore. Now I am thinking of moving aboard. Some month ago I visited Singapore for 2 weeks and totally felt in love with the city.
Coming back to my question: I got some medicine wich I took daily. It's to help me sleep. In Germany it only cost me 5€ (7,5 S$) but I need a recipe from a doctor (social insurance). How it would be in Singapore? How much the costs? My new employer provides me a medical insurance. Do this usually pay some of the medicine costs? Or must I pay it by my own?
Best Wishes,
a german monkey

that depends on the medicine. I buy my medicine either in Johor Bahru or from my doctor direct in Singapore. You can buy a lot of medicine in JB without a script. What is the medication?
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.

quite frankly this depends upon the coverage your employer is paying for ...
my medical insurance covers unlimited medication annually ... but then the premium is higher than normal.

What medication is it? Some medications such as prozac or Zoloft or other psycho drugs are impossible to get out here.

this is not entirely true. the meds you named are available at any hospital pharmacy or after a consult at a specialist's clinic.
most psychiatric meds are available.

Did I get psycotronic meds from every doctor? Or only specialists?

Are you an addict not under the doctor's control? Do you know that many medicines that are considered in EU common, like for example ibuprofen, or even the shampoo Nizoral are being here registered medicines? So even if you can get it without any doctor you will be requested to show your IC. And it will be in some database that may be available to the authorities. And if you try to get the medicines from abroad and it is (based on) a controlled or prohibited substance, then you may found yourself in a pretty deep sh**t.

Of coz I be under Doctors Control! I just asked because I am afraid how quick I will find a doctor. In Germany it usually tooks some months until you get an appointment.
I already checked the List about Import Medicine, so far I see my seams not to be avoid.

You will be able to find a doctor in an hour of landing. Perhaps ask your German doctor for case notes or a letter describing the situation for the new doctor in Singapore. Singapore does not have socialized medicine.

it depends, but a psychiatrist would stock most meds their patients need.
a GP would not stock most meds needed for pharmacotherapy because they may not be capable of treating such patients AND they see very very few of such patients on a regular/follow-up basis.
