Regarding Rental Laws and Agent Fee

Post by kanchanarp » Wed, 06 Jul 2016 10:28 am

We are a group of undergraduates from Sri Lanka who are interning at SUTD from 1st August to December 31st.

We have looking for a budget apartment for at least 4 people around SUTD as we are still undergraduates depending on our stipend.

Upon our search we came across a few listed apartments that stated they have an agent fee of 0.5 month and stamp fees. Is this a one time thing or the agent fee is 0.5 month per every month?

What is the procedure we should take to find a suitable apartment

Thank you in advance.

it is a one time fee and usually its half a month's fee.
To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late

Who is the Landlord of the apartment? If this is a private owner, then you should pay no agent's fee (commission) as the agent involved would be the LL's agent, not yours. You pay commission to the agents for a job of finding the apartment, documents preparation etc etc, and you pay it only if this is your agent - you should have a separate agreement with the agent. Also, the same agent can not be used by the Landlord and the Tenant.
