Hi, this is my first post on this forum. We are likely to be relocating to Singapore from London this December with our two boys age 2 and 4. I am going to be visiting Singapore on my own in a couple of weeks for a few days, really just to get a feel for the place, see what type of condos we can afford, but most of all see if we would be happy living there for a few years. I am keen to hear about key places to visit which will allow me to make an informed decision as to what life will be like for us over there. (I will be mostly SAHM initially), i.e Where do you go with kids of that age, parks, cafes, day to day life, and fun stuff to do at weekends.
I will only have 3 days there and want to ensure I see enough of the right areas in order to make the right decision on behalf of everyone!
Many thanks in advance
Immy

LOOK-SEE trip advice please
Re: LOOK-SEE trip advice please
Welcome to the forum
If you look at the 'sticky'/FAQ topics at the head of this Relocating/Moving section of the forum, there are a couple there which hopefully should be of help to you.
This one -> 'Where should I/we consider living'
http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/viewtopic.php?t=101985
...will hopefully help you to consider locations that might best fit your particular circumstances. Then when you've identified candidate areas that fit your needs/budget, you could make targeted flying visits to those neighbourhoods for a walk-about, just to get a feel for what those areas are like; the vibe/demographic/amenities etc.
IMPO there probably isn't much point physically viewing any property at that stage. By the time you've been home, packed up, and returned it's pretty unlikely anything you viewed will still be available. Identifying potential areas and checking out the feel at ground level will give you a good leg-up at the pre-relo stage.
Another of the FAQ topics 'What to bring' will also help you focus on your packing, including what not to bring, and what to stock up on before your freight gets packed.

Re: LOOK-SEE trip advice please
Immy, unless you are coming over on a very low budget, there is no type of the condo you could not afford. What you may not be able to afford is to live in certain areas. That's why, it is pretty crucial you provide some indication of your housing budget. Followed by things like your hubby work location etc etc.imomonts wrote:Hi, this is my first post on this forum. Re: LOOK-SEE trip advice please
Thanks for the replies very helpful. I have arranged to look at some condos just to get a feel for what the lifestyle is like. I was really just after some key places to visit on my look-see that would give me an idea of what people with young children do to pass the time. ie- Where do stay at home mums hang out? What are the "do not miss" places to have a stroll around and soak up the vibe? ... I know it is a very general question but I'd be interested in your opinions.
Many thanks

So far I am considering Holland Village area, and condos in the west. Considering Dover Court for School. Husband will be based in CBD.
