Online Shopping from UK

Post by Sunrisesingapore » Sun, 03 Jul 2016 12:33 pm

With the pound down, stuff should be cheaper to order from the UK.

I note however, that only some sites automatically take off the 20% VAT for online exports to outside of the UK, whilst many do not, and I don't really want to pay that, especially if I get stung for GST over on this side.

Any Brits know if there is a way of avoiding UK VAT on online imports from the UK?

It's generally not charged on online sales to other countries, but you will be charged for GST on the total amount here if the total value of the shipment, including shipping costs, exceeds SG$400.

You just need to shop from places big enough/'internationally orientated' enough to have the inbuilt facility to not add VAT on ex VAT-zone countries.

I've seen some websites not take off the 20% until it recognize the shipping address as being outside UK so sometimes it's done only during final checkout process.
