US Notary in Singapore

Post by Flint » Tue, 21 Jun 2016 11:20 am

Hello,

I am buying a house in the US, but I will not be there for the closing planned for end of June.
I need to have a power of attorney prepared and signed/approved by a US Notary (Singapore Notary will NOT work). I know that the US Embassy provides this service, but time is of the essence... and their next available time slot, which I booked any way, is too far out.

Is there in Singapore any US Notary other than at the US Embassy?

In advance, thank you for your quick reply.

Find a US bar admitted attorney. They can sign. Plenty around in Singapore.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

Thanks for your quick reply PNGMK.

Unfortunately, I have not found it easy to find a US Bar Attorney in Singapore from the web or yellow pages. I can only find huge firms in business law, etc. The Ministry of Law in Singapore web site lists all firms but is so generic that it is not helpful for a small simple service as US Notary...
If you (or someone else?) know any US Bar attorney in Singapore who would help me to get this Power of Attorney signed, please PM me.

Thanks!

As I write this the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur has appointment slots available for notarial services on June 23 (less than two days from now). Jakarta also has slots available on the 23rd. Bali might be available even sooner, but you have to call to make an appointment. Surabaya might also be available on the 23rd or sooner. All of these places are quick, cheap hops away on discount airlines.

On edit: Singapore a slot open now on June 24 if that matters. KL and Jakarta (at least) can beat that by a day. Bali just might have an appointment tomorrow (22nd), but you have to call, and it wouldn't hurt to ask nicely.

On second edit: Assuming notarization at the U.S. Embassy in Kuala Lumpur on the 23rd, and assuming you drop off the documents with UPS in Kuala Lumpur sometime that same afternoon and pick their fastest service, UPS "guarantees" delivery before 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 25 (to the civilized parts of the U.S., anyway).

I know one in Thailand only. I would ring a few of the foreign law firms - they will know where someone is.
