Saw in a local news site !!!! Finally something to protect contract workers who are not highly paid ...
Employees should be notified in advance if their contract will not be renewed.
Term contract employees should be entitled to leave benefits and must be given advance warning if their contracts will not be renewed, accordng to new tripartite guidelines developed by the Ministry of Manpower and the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), and the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF).
Under the guidelines, term contract employees are eligible for leave benefits if they have been working for the same employer for over three months, even if the service was rendered on separate contracts that are each shorter than the minimum service period of three months.
The guidelines also stipulate that employers could prorate annual leave, sick leave and child-care leave benefits based on the length of the term contract.
Employers are also encouraged to give sufficient notice before the contract's expiry on whether either party wishes to renew the contract.
The Ministry of Manpower (MOM), National Trades Union Congress (NTUC), and the Singapore National Employers Federation (SNEF), have jointly developed a set of Tripartite Guidelines on the Employment of Term Contract Employees.

Read the wording

means they may get it but not necessary have to get it - subject to some conditions
"could prorate annual leave, sick leave and child-care leave"
Now they couldn't or what?
You know, having see many contemporary laws introduced in last few years, I would like to see them actually working and not just being announced as established. Take for example the privacy law introduced very recently. IMHO it's worth nothing for ordinary people it supposed to protect (or so it seemed), unless I missed some important points, what is always possible.

Right now, those on local contracts have no medical, not more than 7 annual and all, all sneakily written so the employee gets penalised if they fall sick or need leave.x9200 wrote:Read the wording

The new policy is in the right direction, to protect the lower level employees.
