I went once and bumped into someone who used to be a regular here. Now I 'enjoy a beer', but it's been a long time since I've seen anyone quite as drunk as he was that night... oh mama!

What have been the highlights for you?

I feel for your your friend, I am nursing one of the biggest hangover I had in awhile. There is just something about sitting in a large tent with long benches and tables that makes sane people consume more beer than they should, well its either that or the young things that parade around pushing beers.

Sadly it feels more sterile this year, the music wasn't as 'rock' as I'd like, security was tighter as well. The moment someone stands on the bench, security comes and takes the jello out of his donut.

The one I went to... had some great beers but they were $$$, as was the food. The music was just nothingness. My impression was the fest is a commerical franchise, solely about them making max$ rather than anything else. It was a false-promise vs my expectations, i.e. how such an event would be 'in the West'. It wasn't about celebrating beer, or interfacing with vendors who know anything about the product they're selling.

So to protect their franchise, they want people to drink as much as possible, but any hint of someone getting out of line - 'standing on a bench' FFS - and they shut down such behaviour. If you think about it I reckon something like a celebration of alcohol [Western style] cannot fit within SGn culture... hence the neutered and morphed version you see in SG. It's also why it was interesting [or perhaps revealing] attending once, but I can't imagine ever wishing to go again.
