We have a new van which fits the requirements for importing to Singapore (less than 3 years old), any one has insight about shipping their car or driving the car to Singapore? Is it even possible to drive from Thailand? How long can the car stay in Singapore after entering the boarder?
I have been warned that shipping the car would be extortion but I really want to find out the exact dollar amount before ruling out the option. Any recommended company can do so?

Re: Driving from Thailand to Singapore
It is possible to drive from Thailand to Singapore, although you should do a Google search on the subject to learn more about the potential dangers of extremist groups in the southern area.
You should be aware that imporation of your car will be very expensive, including payment of 140 percent tax on the "open market value" which is computed to include the cost of the car, shipping, emissions tests, insurance... just about everything you can think of. And one you pay the tax you will still need to purchase a COE, certificate of entitlement to drive it on the roads, currently running at S$54,000 for the average automobile.

If you are talking about bringing a car into Singapore on a temporary basis, then things are different.Strong Eagle wrote:It is possible to drive from Thailand to Singapore, although you should do a Google search on the subject to learn more about the potential dangers of extremist groups in the southern area.

Re: Driving from Thailand to Singapore
Adding to SE post. A foreign car can temporarily be used in Singapore only by non-Singaporeans who DO NOT have PR or an EP.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.
You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

you're not using airplanes... shipping by sea container is cheap. pay a broker/forwarder to take care of the details and you're gold.

Re: Driving from Thailand to Singapore
the other option is to keep renting cars in different countries as you get from point to point
India is on its way to completing the road connectivity from the North East into Myanmar once thats complete driving from India into Singapore could be a reality.

To get there early is on time and showing up on time is late
