[Help] Marry an Indonasian girl

Post by dizzy1990 » Tue, 14 Jun 2016 11:29 am

Hello everyone,
I am a Singaporean and I am intending to marry an Indonesian girl, she is from Semarang but live in Batam.
I am totally new to how to process with the proper paper work and documentation

1.) Are there any guidelines where I can read up or steps that I can follow to aid my marriage?
2.) Do I need to contact ICA or Manpower for this marriage?
3.) What do I need to do at ROM?
4.) I am earning around 2.2k, is LTVP needed for this case?
5.) I am totally cool with converting to a Muslim since I am a Free-Thinker. (That solves the religion portion)

I have total zero knowledge on this, therefore I have mountain of questions to ask but not sure where to start. Can I have some answers to it?

1. There are some pre marriage counselling services around. I would also recommend you read a book like 101 questions to ask before getting married.
2. For an LTVP yes. If your fiance is not working in Singapore no need to talk to MOM.
3. Book and marry.
4. Yes but it may be difficult to get one.
5. It's an urban myth that you need to convert to islam to marry a muslim in Singapore. I suggest you do not convert unless you truly believe. She and you can have a civil marriage in Singapore at ROM that is recognized in Singapore.
I not lawyer/teacher/CPA.

Point number (2)
She is not working in Singapore, she is situated in Batam working. She still needs LTVP?

Point number (4)
Is it really I need a proper stable income to bring her in? Why is it difficult? There is a safe value of earnings needed?

Was she ever working in SG under Work Permit? If yes you need MOM to agree for you to marry.

From anecdotal evidence posted on this forum it looks ICA sees income levels below 2800 (IIRC) as not sufficient to maintain/sustain a family.

No she never work in Singapore before

If my income levels below 2800, really not possible to bring her in for marriage. Definitely it is not marriage for convenience.

You can marry her regardless of income but whether you can get her an LTVP is another problem.

What if I am not eligible to get a LTVP? What will the consequences be?

Obvious, she will not get the LTVP. Is there a chance for you to upgrade with you salary or for her to find a job in SG other than FDW?

She cannot live with you for long periods in Singapore. You need to upgrade your salary and/or find her a job here - unfortunately Singapore doesn't seem to allow a lot of EP to Indonesians. As she is in Batam another option is for you to go there every weekend?

I can go visit her every weekend but in the long run it will be more hefty for me.
If my current income is 2.2k, and I help her finds a job in Singapore. She will be able to stay for long?
If that's the case, that means she will apply for work permit instead of LTVP?

She would need to find a job first, then her employer to be will apply for w WP for her. What's her education, any degree?
Generally do it in that order:
1) Get married
2) Apply for LTVP
2a) if accepted - happy end
2b) if rejected continue
3) She finds a job in SG
4) Her future employer applies for her pass
5a) if accepted - happy end
5b) if rejected, check your salary, if more than before go to (2), if the same or less, go to (3)

Just checking, if I am not able to meet their salary standards. Are there any chances of appealing?
Her education is not high, she did not go through any tertiary education. Just secondary only.

Normally it makes only sense to appeal if something changed or was overlooked.

If no degree, then Work Permit job is probably the best option. Or can you take another job part time to bring up your salary to a bit higher level? Once she is on LTVP, she can find a job, apply with the future employer for LoC (Letter of Consent) and if successful, you could be relieved.

Ok, that sounds like an alternative. Thanks
