So basically there are taxis where there are streets and no taxis where there are no streets.
Re: need a taxi? head east... waaay east!
It's a nice map, but surely it doesn't show the location of all the cabs it mentions as present (over 6k as I write it) so, it is nothing but a gadget.
Re: need a taxi? head east... waaay east!
Well it's showing all of the data he's grabbed at some point in time, it's taking a feed of LTA taxi availability data via the data.gov.sg portal, https://developers.data.gov.sg/datagovs ... ailability which provides coordinates for all currently available taxis. The portal recommends getting the data every minute but he's obviously not doing that as there are currently 5000ish taxis in the feed not 6000.

Yes, I found that link earlier, but zooming the map in, somehow I doubt the all data corresponds to all the cabs.* Just looking through my window is enough to know, it's not the case. Besides, at any given time, country-wide there must be dozens of intersections where 3-10 cabs are present within a 50m circle. It's a very common sight and the map shows high cabs concentration in some isolated spots only.
As of 5000 vs 6000, I think you should take into account that we checked the No not at the same time.
*) Unless one dot = few cabs.
