Clarification on PR renunciation before NS

Post by Hyperspace_ » Mon, 06 Jun 2016 2:08 pm

Hi,

This is regarding this post:

http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/viewtopic.php?t=108359

My PR(2nd gen) will be expiring at the end of this year and renewing it would put me in a similar situation as inspiracoon next year. Can I still renounce after receiving the enlistment letter? Will I be detained at the customs etc. by the ICA? At exactly what time can I no longer renounce ?

I understand that this question has been answered at: http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/viewto ... 3&start=90

however, the relevant messages have been removed hence I am asking about this again.

Thanks in advance!

@SMS, MS, would be great if you guys can comment on this

Reading this message and the Inspiracoon post (http://forum.singaporeexpats.com/viewtopic.php?t=108359) is a little confusing but it seems the OP is a 2nd Gen PR who wishes to renounce his PR. What he has not explained is whether he plans to fulfil his NS obligation? I believe that for a 2nd Generation PR the NS obligation is mandatory for the OP at this stage (i.e. he should have really renounced PR before 13 or even 11 as per the correct procedure) but if others can chime in....

OP as for leaving Singapore you will not be detained on exit provided you have applied for a NS exit permit if planning to leave for longer than 3 months (I think)? You will of course have problems coming back in if you do not serve NS.

You've been arrested? Law Society of Singapore can provide referrals.
You want an International School job? School website or http://www.ISS.edu
Your rugrat needs a School? Avoid for profit schools
You need Tax advice? Ask a CPA
You ran away without doing NS? Shame on you!

MS mentioned something in another thread about the timing of and delaying the medical checkup, what was that about? And also the INBOUND and aborting thing?

Here are the links that I am referring to:

Hyper... because this topic is sensitive (i.e. posters have ended up in legal hot-water) you may not get much response.

You will notice a large number of posts in certain thread during 2010 have been deleted by the op at the behest of the local government. Tread Carefully.
