Where to find a furniture part

Post by Brah » Sun, 05 Jun 2016 3:28 pm

Oh this might be a hard one.

There is a missing rubber foot on my coffee table, need to get a replacement. It is needed to support the glass top, pics below.

Bought it eons ago overseas and don't even know the make so contacting the manufacturer is out.

They actually look like test tube stoppers, which might work in a pinch.

Any ideas where to get one of these?

I remember having stuff like this in a chemistry set as a kid.

Brah, what are the dimensions? I understand this is just like a rubber stopper, all solid rubber with no cavity inside?

Pretty close, may fit:

Hardness IRHD 45-55 is something between rubber eraser and warm car tire so should be able to squeeze in a bit if needed.

And if you find something that works but isn't exactly the right size you could replace every foot to keep everything even.

Have you tried DIY, Ikea, Mustafa, Japan home and that other Japanese 2$ store already?

That just might work, thanks.

To answer the other questions, just noticed it was missing today so have not had a chance to get out and around. It's quite a specialty item so I don't expect to find it at a DIY or Y100 shop. Good point about finding something of a different size.

Have you tried the Furniture Mart at Jurong East or in IMM itself?

Ugh, after a lot of checking in the background the distributor in SG does not carry these in the right size, and the UK manufacturer has not got back to me despite 2 phone calls and 2 emails.

Amazon has them at an exorbitant price. I find it hard to believe that these are not more readily available here.

One other alternative could be to use the rubber feet like these ones:
Image

They come in different sizes and are typically made of clear-yellowish PU. Available in most of the local DIY stores. It may fit as it is, or you would need to fill the space below with anything suitable (blutack, styrophorm pellets, paper, 2 component putty, plaster etc).

Another way is to get them (regular rubber stoppers) from e-bay. There must be tons of this stuff sold over there.

Oh, one more pretty obvious source, but not sure whether they deal with the individual (person) customers.

And a bunch of the same type:
